As we begin a new year, many are choosing to create single-word resolutions to guide their decisions and experiences for 2017. I have done this for a few years now and this year is no exception. The past year has been an eventful and exciting one, filled with busy workweeks, constant sporting events, fun family times and the inevitable stress that comes with a working family. I loved every minute of it (well, most minutes!) and am looking forward to the craziness that I know 2017 will bring. So, for 2017, my one word is: believe.
Why is believe my one word for 2017? I chose this word to guide my mindset and decision-making: to believe in myself, my family, my work and our world. In our fast-paced days, I tend to lose sight of what I know and believe for sure and instead, get bogged down in the minute, but constant, details that often take me away from my original intention.
In 2017, I vow to keep the fast pace of my work and family, but to enjoy each minute of it and believe in the possibilities that each moment holds for good. I have finally realized that I am in control of how each and every day unfolds. Those same daily events (the morning routine, teaching, writing driving kids to practices, laundry, dinner, etc..) happen with certainty. Yet, it is my choice to decide whether they happen with the frenzy of a stressed attitude or with a calmer approach. In 2017, I vow to believe in possibilities, rather than problems, and act accordingly.
